Community Service

Judges may order community service as a condition of probation, or your attorney may recommend you complete some volunteer work to help with your pending case. This is non-paying work that is performed by a defendant for the benefit of the general public. In North Carolina, court-ordered community service must be performed at a non-profit or not-for-profit organization. Examples include the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Greensboro Urban Ministry, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, most churches, and many government institutions.

If you are having trouble finding a place to volunteer, check out The Volunteer Center for opportunities, or ask your attorney for a list of places that clients frequently volunteer.
