Internships
We represent a full range of indigent criminal defendants from juveniles to capital clients. Our interns gain incredible practical experience interviewing clients, reviewing discovery, and even arguing cases in court.

Reflections from Former Interns
“[T]his role as an intern with this office allowed me what I consider to be the greatest chance to make the greatest impact that any intern position could offer.”
— Sarah Dobbs, UNCG, Spring 2020 Intern
“The work performed in this office is admirable beyond belief and is absolutely necessary to ensure that the fight for justice is not dependent upon whether or not a client has enough money.”
— Laura Rossi, Elon University, Summer 2019 Intern
“By affirming their client’s humanity, Guilford County public defenders serve to represent the person, not the crime.”
— Christine Walsh, Hamilton College, Summer 2019 Shepherd Fellow
“The work of Public Defenders involves relating to people at some of the lowest, most critical points of their lives. […] I learned that showing compassion to the clients in these situations is almost as, if not more, important than knowing and understanding the law.”
— Kaylee Raymer, Berea College, Summer 2016 Shepherd Fellow
